Federal & state tax credits, rebates and programs by state
Federal EV purchase and home-charger credits have both ended. The "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (signed July 4, 2025) repealed the §30D new EV credit and §25E used EV credit effective September 30, 2025, and moved up the §30C home charger credit's expiration to June 30, 2026 — all three are now expired. A new, non-EV-specific auto loan interest deduction remains available through 2028 for US-assembled vehicles. State programs below are unaffected.
New EV Tax Credit (IRA §30D)
ExpiredEXPIRED September 30, 2025. Repealed by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (P.L. 119-21, signed July 4, 2025). Vehicles acquired on or before September 30, 2025 may still be eligible — consult a tax professional. No new claims available for purchases after that date.
Used EV Tax Credit (IRA §25E)
ExpiredEXPIRED September 30, 2025. Repealed by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. 30% of sale price (max $4,000) was available for used EVs priced ≤ $25,000. Vehicles acquired on or before September 30, 2025 may still qualify. No new claims for later purchases.
Home EV Charger Tax Credit (§30C)
ExpiredEXPIRED June 30, 2026 (deadline moved up from 2032 by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act). Covered 30% of Level 2 charger equipment + installation cost, up to $1,000 per port, for chargers placed in service in an eligible census tract on or before that date. No new claims for chargers installed after June 30, 2026.
New Vehicle Loan Interest Deduction
Active through 2028Not EV-specific, but covers EVs assembled in the US: deduct up to $10,000/year of interest on a loan for a new (not used) personal-use vehicle with final assembly in the United States. Loan must have originated on or after January 1, 2025. Available through tax year 2028. Phases out above $100,000 MAGI (single) / $200,000 (joint) — reduced $200 per $1,000 over the threshold. Available whether or not you itemize (Schedule 1-A). Confirm a specific EV's US-assembly status before counting on this.
Don't forget your utility. Most major electric utilities offer home charger rebates ($100–$700) and time-of-use rates that cut overnight charging costs 30–50%. Search your utility's website for "EV rebate" or "EV rate."
