Range Estimator
LiveHow far can you really go today? Live weather + physics
Real-world EV range depends heavily on temperature, speed, and climate control. This tool applies a physics-based model to your actual driving conditions using live weather data. Results are estimates — individual driving style and road conditions vary.

How the Real-World Range Estimator works
Official range ratings are measured in a lab. This estimator starts from your vehicle's rated range and adjusts it for the conditions that actually change how far you can drive: outside temperature (fetched live for your location), your cruising speed, cabin heating or air-conditioning, and how full the battery is when you set off.
The biggest single factor is temperature. Lithium-ion batteries deliver less usable energy when cold, and heating the cabin can draw several kilowatts on its own — which is why winter range can fall 20–30% below the rating. Speed matters almost as much: aerodynamic drag rises with the square of speed, so 80 mph uses far more energy per mile than 60 mph.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the weather data come from?
Current temperature for your location is fetched from the free Open-Meteo weather service when you allow location access, or you can type in a temperature manually.
Why is my estimated range so much lower than the EPA number?
Usually a combination of cold weather, highway speed and cabin heating. Try the same inputs at 70°F and 60 mph to see how close the estimate gets to the official rating.
Does the estimate account for a heat pump?
Not yet — the estimator applies the same cold-weather penalty to every vehicle. Cars equipped with a heat pump usually do somewhat better in winter than the estimate shows, because they heat the cabin more efficiently than resistive heaters.
Can I use this for trip planning?
It's a good sanity check for a single leg. For multi-stop routing, pair it with a route planner and leave a buffer — most drivers plan to arrive at fast chargers with at least 10–15% remaining.
